J’ai obtenu un doctorat en études urbaines et en histoire de l’Institut national de la recherche scientifique et de Sorbonne Université. Mes recherches portent sur la géographie et l'histoire de l'environnement, des villes et de l'industrie, avec un intérêt particulier pour les transitions énergétiques, la gestion des déchets et la désindustrialisation. Mon premier livre, La ville énergivore. Une histoire des transitions énergétiques à Montréal au 20e siècle, sort en août 2026 chez McGill-Queen’s University Press. Il porte sur l’histoire des transitions énergétiques urbaines dans une métropole énergivore, mettant l’emphase sur les conséquences sociales et spatiales de l’infrastructure fossile et électrique. Cet ouvrage est issu de ma thèse de doctorat, qui a obtenu cinq prix.Mes recherches postdoctorales, réalisées à l’UMR Géographie-cités (Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne), ont porté sur l’histoire comparative de la gestion des déchets à Montréal et à Paris. À travers l’étude des incinérateurs urbains, je me suis intéressé aux tensions entre industrie et environnement dans les villes de la fin du 20e siècle, marquées par la désindustrialisation et la gentrification. Je prépare un second livre sur les conséquences géographiques et environnementales de la désindustrialisation à Montréal, à travers l’étude de la gestion des terrains contaminés depuis les années 1980. Je travaille aussi sur l’histoire de l’industrialisation régionale et de l’aménagement des terres agricoles. Mes recherches ont été financées par le Conseil de recherches en sciences humaines du Canada, le Fonds de recherche du Québec société et culture, l’Association canadienne pour l’histoire des affaires et le Comité d’histoire de l’électricité et de l’énergie. Mes travaux ont été publiés dans des revues comme Environment and Planning C: Politics and Space, Journal of Urban Affairs, Journal of Urban History, Enterprise and Society, Recherches sociographiques et Flux. ENG I am an assistant professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Montreal. I earned a Ph.D. in Urban Studies and History from the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) and Sorbonne Université. My research focuses on the geography and history of the environment, cities, and industry, with a particular interest in energy transitions, waste management, and deindustrialization. My first book, La ville énergivore. Une histoire des transitions énergétiques à Montréal au 20e siècle, will be published in August 2026 by McGill-Queen’s University Press. It explores the history of urban energy transitions in an energy-hungry metropolis, as well as the social and spatial consequences of fossil and electric infrastructure. This book is based on my doctoral dissertation, which received five prizes. My postdoctoral research focused on the comparative history of waste management in Montréal and Paris. Through the study of urban incinerators, I examined the tensions between industry and the environment in late 20th-century cities marked by deindustrialization and gentrification. I am currently working on a second book project that analyzes the geographic and environmental consequences of deindustrialization in Montreal, through a study of contaminated sites since the 1980s. I am also working on the history of regional industrialization and agricultural land use planning. My research has been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Fonds de recherche du Québec société et culture, the Canadian Business History Association, and the Comité d’histoire de l’électricité et de l’énergie.
